


Authentic Pilates™ Method of Body Conditioning is a series of more than 700 controlled movements engaging the mind and body, performed on specifically designed exercise apparatus, developed by Joseph Pilates in the 1920s. Authentic Pilates™ restores muscle balance, builds strength, and flexibility, increases coordination, and emphasizes and improves body alignment and posture. It incorporates the abdomen, lower back, and buttocks as a power center enabling the body to move freely through a sequence of carefully performed movements.
Authentic Pilates™ certification requires 800 hours of apprenticeship work at an official training studio. The rigorous training includes classes in anatomy, physiology, and a thorough understanding of the Mat, Reformer, Cadillac, Chair, and Barrel exercises. Each student is required to perform at an advanced level, providing clear, concise, and personal knowledge of the method; they must demonstrate their ability to modify and teach basic, intermediate, and advanced levels of Authentic Pilates™, focusing on the individual needs of each client.
